Ramie Fibers

Ramie Plant Ramie, name of a natural fiber and the plant from whose bark it is derived. The perennial shrub of the nettle family is native to East Asia. Lustrous, durable, soft, stronger than cotton, and resistant to chemicals, mildew, and shrinking, the fiber is also readily dyed, but hard to spin. Twine and thread are made from the fiber, and the cloth (often mixed with other fibers) is used in upholstery, tapestries, and other materials.
