Objectives of speed frame

I. Attenuation of draw sliver to a suitable size for spinning.

II. To insert a small amount of twist to strengthen the roving.

III. To wind the twisted strand roving into a bobbin.

Operation involved in speed frame:

I. Drafting

II. Twisting

III. Laying out

IV. Winding

Open-End Spinning
In Lap-former machine, slivers are fed to form a lap of 20 inches wide condensed with a slight draft and weighing as per set length. The machine run smoothly so as not to disturb the fibres which undergo combing at the comber machines. One such Lap former is sufficient to feed 8 comber machines. The first functioning of rotor spinning ,machine was presented at the ITMA in 1967.Yarn spinning according to the rotor spinning principle predominates for all non conventional spinning methods. It omits the step of forming a roving. After drafting, the sliver is fed into a rotary beater. This device ensures that the fibers are beaten into a thin supply which enters a duct and gets deposited on the sides of the disc(rotor). The transportation of the fibers is achieved through air currents.
