Plastic bags are made from polyethylene. During processing, the polyethylene might be treated with any number of additives. For perfect presentation at the point of sale and protection against dirt and moisture garments are individually packed in a polybag, or multipacks or assorted packs.

Polybags

For perfect presentation at the point of sale and protection against dirt and moisture garments are individually packed in a polybag, or multipacks or assorted packs. Plastic bags are created from plastic chemical reaction links together monomers to form a polymer. A monomer consists of molecules of the same organic substance.

When linked together, monomers create polymers, solid substances composed of repeating units. In the plastics industry, the term polymer is synonymous with plastic.

Polyethylene and polypropylene are two plastic resins frequently used in the production of plastic bags. Bags used for packaging must not cause Phenolic Yellowing. This yellowing is caused due to the presence of Butylated Hydroxyl Toluene (BHT). The presence of BHT only a few parts per million can cause garment discoloration.

Types of Polybags

Polybag Tubing

Polythene tubing on a roll can be cut and made into bags or any size and shape. Simply slide the tubing over the item, cut to the desired length and close both ends by tying. Seal using a heat sealer, cable ties, tape or staples.

Tubing is generally available in various widths from 1″ to over 8′. General medium duty lay flat tubing is 240 gauges (60 microns). Poly Bag Sealers heat seals bags up to 0.006mm thickness. It can convert Poly Tubes into various size bags.

Flat Sheeting

Polyethylene sheeting cut to required size for general wrapping, lining or dividing layers. In some cases, a single layer of the sheet is put in carton bottom and then garments (without poly bagging) are put on this flat sheeting and then the extra sheet is just folded back on top to secure garments from any dirt Garments can be put immediately on sales store racks after cargo delivery.

Side Weld

Polyethylene sheeting is folded to form the bottom of the bag which is then sealed at each side creating a neat trim package.

Types of Plastics

Various types of plastics resins are used to make various type of plastic depending on usage and final product.

The color of Symbol Material Application
PET or PETE Polyethylene Terephthalate (PE), chemical resistant thermoplastic. The Polymerization of ethylene, a flammable, gaseous hydrocarbon found in petroleum results in the production of polyethylene resin Clear soft drink and Beverage bottles, Cooking oil Bottles, Food Packaging etc.
HDPE or PE-HD High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE), Chemical resistant, more stiff the LDPE Food product and detergent bottles, Cosmetic bottles and casings industrial wrappings and Films, Sheets, Plastic bags etc.
UPVC or PPVC Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) can be plasticized or unplasticised Plastic Bottles, Packaging Film, Credit Cards, Water containers, Water Pipes etc.
LDPE or PE-LD Low-density Polyethylene (LDPE), most common and least expensive plastic resin, the resin is created through polymerization of Ethylene at very high temperature.

Maintain durability, water resistance, clarity under low temperature, has low melting point making it ideal for heat sealing.

Cling Film, Plastic Bags, Flexible Containers and Food Wraps
PP Polypropylene (PP) contains polymers of propylene, colorless and combustible gas found in petroleum, expensive to process than polyethylene, but easy. Denser, Stiffer and Stronger than Polyethylene, Light and Durable Food Packagings like yogurt and margarine, wrappers fro sweet candies, packaging for ready to eat snacks, medical packaging. Beer and Milk crates, Shampoo and cosmetic bottles.
PS or EPS Polystyrene (PS) Disposable cup and plates for hot or cold drinks, Fast-food package boxes, Dairy product packaging and containers Ready to eat noodle cups
Other or O Nylon, Acrylic or Others Complex composites and laminates, usage for electric components etc.

Commonly Available Polybags

Perforated Roll

Perforated Roll

A continuous roll of seamless tubing is made into bottom-seal bags, which is perforated at specified bag lengths for easy tear-off individual bags.

Flat Polyethylene Bag

Manufactured from 100% virgin quality, high clarity, low-density polyethylene. Flat Polyethylene Bags are the most economical solution to many of packaging needs and requirements. Poly bags are available in light to heavyweight gauges. In general, polybags are made from High-clarity, light-weight 200 gauges (50 microns) or 80 gauges (20 microns).

Polythene bags protect contents from dust and moisture. Lightweight is the most popular for protecting small parts and clothing. Medium duty is the most popular for slightly heavier goods. Flat Poly bags can be sealed with heat sealers, bag neck sealers, adhesive tape shut. Bag dimensions are internal dimensions, width (opening) x length. Some polybags have ventilation holes for keeping air out and keep merchandise compressed.gs with Closure Flap

Zip Lock Poly Bags

Zippered are made for repeated uses. There is a strip with a groove at one side of the top and a thin strip at another side which when pressed can fit snugly and seal the polybag opening. Ziplock bags are ideal for collecting a number of small items. Lightweight Bags are made of gauge of 0.002″ while Heavyweight Bags are made from 0.004″ gauge.

Plain Adhesive Re-Sealable Bags with Closure Flap

Made from standard grade 100% virgin, low-density, high clarity, lightweight polyethylene or polypropylene film. The grip-seal ensures the bag stays firmly shut once sealed protecting against dirt and moisture but can be quickly opened. Generally used to pack garments, Book manuals or documents where re-closure is important.

Gusseted Polybags

Gusseted Polybags are three-dimensional gusseted polyethylene bags. These gusseted poly bags provide a precision fit for boxes, drums or other packaged goods. The first dimension of Gusseted Poly Bag is the width of the opening. The second dimension of the wholesale polyethylene bags is the depth of the gusset, and the third is the height from the opening to the seal. For example 4x2x6 or 16x14x36.

Poly Bag Dimensions

Bag sizes are bag dimensions are always internal dimensions, width or opening measurement X length or height measurement. Always keep extra 1 centimeter in both length and width to keep ease for putting in or out the garments.

Poly Bag Safety or Suffocation Warning

The buyer of Seller sells their products due to safety and regulation with a warning printed on one side of the poly bag. This is to avoid any suit or filling any kind of injury or death caused due to suffocation of any child injury or death caused due to suffocation of any child or user if not used responsibly. This mandatory for most of the countries.

Language and words contents can vary depending on buyer sales area. In USA English and Spanish is used, while Europe English, French, Spanish, German, Portuguese and Italian languages are used. The buyer also requires sometimes to print PE or PP recycling symbol for safe and better disposal for used polybags.

Common example

“Warning: To avoid danger of suffocation, keep away from babies and children. Do not use this bag in cribs, beds, carriages or Playpens. The plastic bag could block nose and mouth and prevent breathing. This bag is not a toy.”
