Removing the Fabric

Physical Properties and characteristics of Fabrics

fabric We need to make sure that the customer is aware of the properties and characteristics of the fabrics. It is the designer's responsibility to select the appropriate fabrics for their intended applications, but it is the responsibility of the fabric producer to provide as much information as possible to help customers make appropriate fabric selections. Like physical porperties, style characterstics, tactile characteristics, utility characteristics, durability and so on..

Cotton Fibers and Its Properties

fiber Cotton is a seed fiber, meaning the fiber grows from seeds. It is perhaps the most important of all fibers.

Drafting Plans

fabric hosiery weaving A draft indicates the number of heald shafts used to produce a given design and the order is which warp ends are threaded through the heald eyes of the heald shaft. The principle of drafting (i.e. putting of ends on different healed shafts) is that ends which work in different order require separate heald shafts. To keep matters simple, we can also say that the ends that work alike are put on the same heald shaft.

Open-End Spinning

spinning spun-yarn yarn The first functioning of rotor spinning ,machine was presented at the ITMA in 1967.Yarn spinning according to the rotor spinning principle predominates for all non conventional spinning methods. It omits the step of forming a roving. After drafting, the sliver is fed into a rotary beater. This device ensures that the fibers are beaten into a thin supply which enters a duct and gets deposited on the sides of the disc(rotor). The transportation of the fibers is achieved through air currents.

Musk Ox

fiber The musk ox, also known as Ovibos moschatus, is an ancient species of arctic mammal currently found in remote areas of the far north, including Greenland, Alaska, Canada and Siberia. During the Pleistocene, musk ox wandered across the Bering Land Bridge to populate North America with the likes of the woolly mammoth, saber-toothed cat, and giant ground sloth. They provide us with Qiviut fiber.

Textile Yarns

knitting spinning yarn Yarns are continuous strands of fibers that can be woven or knitted into fabrics. Natural staple fibers usually requires processes such as spinning to make yarns. Silk yarn, extracted from silk cocoon are continuous filament yarns. Most of the synthetic yarns also does not require the additional processes of spinning.

Non-Woven Fabrics

fabric Nonwovens do not depend on the interlacing of yarn for internal cohesion. Intrinsically they have neither an organized geometrical structure. They are essentially the result of the relationship between one single fibre and another. This provides nonwoven fabrics with characteristics of their own, with new or better properties (absorption, filtration) and therefore opens them up to other applications.

Ways to Finish Fabrics

finishing knitting Fabrics fabrics are woven or knitted, freshly coming off the machine are called grey goods which must be treated in different ways to give them the important finishing touch. We call this finishing touch “finish”. This finishes we apply to fabrics are either for practical reasons or appearances. There is a wide range of finish we use on fabrics.

Special Garment Finishes

apparel finishing There are finishes done on garments such as Permanent Press Finish particularly on pants for center crease of the pants to stay crisp and make them look fresh and neat.
