Fabric Weaving

fabric weaving The weaving is a process of formation of fabric with interlacement of two or more sets of yarns using a stable machine called loom. Human beings have started using the woven fabrics since the drawn of history. If we exclude the stone age period, the history of civilization is also, to some extent, the history of weaving. Though primitive civilizations used coarser threads to make fabrics which were crude and coarse, there are references of fine fabrics made from filament of silk in China.

Common Defects of Fabrics

fabric Common Defects of Fabrics during manufacturing process includes back fabric seam impression, birds eye, bowing, broken colour pattern, colour out, colour smears, crease mark, drop stitching, dye streak in printing, hole, jerk in, knots, mixed yarn, mottled, needle line, open reed, pin holes, press off etc.

Derivatives of twill Weaves

fabric weaving Derivatives Formed by Rearranging Ends or Picks- The number of what maybe termed fundamental weaves is comparatively small, but the weaves that may be derived from them are innumerable. Thus, if a simple twill weave is shown out in design paper, several other weaves maybe obtained from it by rearranging either the ends or the picks. Designs thus obtained are termed derivatives.

Loom Types

fabric spinning weaving The earliest art of hand weaving along with hand spinning remains a popular craft. There are different types of weaving looms and these include handloom, frame loom and back strap loom. A loom is a mechanism or tool used for weaving yarn and thread into textiles. Looms vary in a wide assortment of sizes. They come in huge free standing hand looms, tiny hand-held frames, to vast automatic mechanical tools. A loom can as well pertain to an electric line construction like that of a wiring loom.

Denim Fabrics

fabric weaving Denim is a strong, durable fabric constructed in a twill weave with indigo and white yarns. The blue/indigo yarns are the lengthwise or “warp” threads (parallel to the selvage). The white yarns run across the fabric width (the weft threads). Denim is traditionally woven with 100%-cotton yarn;however, today it’s blended with polyester,to control shrinkage and wrinkles, and Lycra to add stretch.Today, denim has many faces. It can be printed, striped, brushed, napped and stonewashed, and the indigo

Knitting

fabric knitting Knitting is a method by which thread or yarn may be turned into cloth. Knitting consists of consecutive loops, called stitches. As each row progresses, a new loop is pulled through an existing loop. The active stitches are held on a needle until another loop can be passed through them. Basically there are two types of knitting which are weft knitting, versus wrap knitting and another type is flat knitting versus circular knitting.

Fabrics for Women and Children

apparel fabric hosiery In the purchase of their apparel most women seek primarily for “look rightness and serviceability”. For outer apparel look – rightness is probably the first consideration. In the purchase of underclothing and children’s wear, serviceability is commonly the first consideration, although look – rightness is nearly always a factor, too. Serviceability is a combination of suitability of fabric and the quality of garments construction. Some basic categories are hosiery, sleepwear, undergarments, blous

Warping and Selvedge

fabric weaving The arranging of yarn threads in long parallel lengths of equal tension, onto a beam in preparation for weaving.During the warping process cones of yarn are placed onto a rack called a creel. From this creel yarn passes through tension and spacing devices and through a leasing reed which separates the yarn threads and keeps them in the correct order before being wound onto a warping balloon.Selvedge means the edge of a fabric that is woven so that it will not ravel or fray.
