Geotextile Dewatering Bag: Dry Solids, Cake Volume, Water Released & Bags Needed

A dewatering bag is sized by what stays in it, not by what is pumped into it. Most of the slurry leaves through the fabric as water.

Slurry From the slurry sample
m³

The whole volume pumped into the bags over the job.

%

Dry the sample and weigh it: dry mass over wet mass.

t/m³

The particle density from the laboratory, not the bulk density of a heap. Organic sludge is much lighter than mineral sediment.

Dewatering Test & Bag From the bench test and the bag supplier
%

Dry solids share of the cake left in the bag, as the hanging bag or pillow test reached with your polymer dose.

%

The share of dry solids that stays inside; the rest leaves in the filtrate.

m³

The theoretical volume on the supplier sheet for the size you will use.

%

Bags are not filled to the theoretical shape; use the supplier's fill height or your own figure.

Bags or Tubes for the Final Cake

— bags

Cake volume divided by the usable volume of one bag, rounded up

The tool balances masses; every property is yours. Solids content and solids density come from the slurry sample, cake solids and capture from a bench dewatering test with the polymer you will use, and the bag volume and fill share from the supplier. Cake density assumes a saturated cake with no air, which is how a dewatered cake sits in a bag; a cake that dries and cracks later takes less room. Water released is the slurry mass less the cake mass, counted at one tonne per cubic metre, so it carries the escaped solids with it. The bag count is for the final cake: bags are filled, left to drain and refilled many times, so this is the number that are full at the end. **This is a quantity estimate, not a tube design: it does not check the fabric strength, the fill height or the site.**
