Filter Press Cloth: Filtration Area, Cake per Cycle, Dry Solids per Day & Cloths a Year

A plate pack of sixty makes fifty-nine chambers. The cloths are counted by plate, the cake by chamber.

Press From the press data sheet
plates
m²

Both faces of one chamber, as the data sheet gives it.

L

The chamber volume on the data sheet for the cake thickness you run.

cloths

Count them as your press is dressed: one cloth over both faces, or one per face.

Cake & Running From a cake sample and the plant log

Weigh a known volume of discharged cake.

cycles

Cycles a cloth set lasts on this press and slurry, from your own records.

Dry Solids Discharged per Day

— t/day

Chambers x chamber volume x cake density x cake solids x cycles a day

The press figures come from its data sheet and the cake figures from your own samples; the tool has no typical value for any of them. Chambers are one fewer than plates, because each chamber lies between two plates. Cake per cycle assumes every chamber fills; a press that discharges soft or part-filled cakes makes less, so check the cake volume against a weighed discharge. Solids loading is the dry solids of one cycle spread over the filtration area. Cloth use is the cycles a year over the life your cloths reach, times the cloths in the press, rounded up; it counts worn cloths only, not cloths damaged in handling. **This is plant arithmetic, not press selection: it does not size a press for a slurry or predict cycle time.**
