Leather Slit Tear Resistance Calculator (ASTM D2212)

Hide thickness varies across a skin, so raw force is not comparable. Normalise it, then look at the scatter before trusting the mean.

Leather is not uniform: tear strength varies with position on the hide, direction relative to the backbone and the tannage, so three specimens from one location describe that location only. Sample across the hide and report the position with the result.
