Wound Dressing Absorbent Pad: Fluid Capacity, Wear Time & Dressings for a Course

Only the pad absorbs. A 15 cm bordered dressing with a 2.5 cm border has the absorbent area of a 10 cm one.

The capacity figure from the data sheet, converted to grams per 100 cm² of pad. Use a retention or fluid handling figure if one is given rather than free swell.

Every figure is the data sheet's or the care plan's; the tool has no capacity or exudate figure of its own. Capacity figures from different tests are not interchangeable: free swell capacity is usually higher than what a dressing holds under compression or retains when handled, so use the figure closest to how the dressing is worn and enter it per 100 cm² of pad. Wear time is the days until the pad reaches the change point, never longer than the instructions allow. Real exudate changes as a wound heals, and dressings are also changed for leakage, strike-through, infection checks or a loose border. **This is supply arithmetic, not clinical advice: the clinician decides the dressing and when to change it.**
