K Murugesh Babu, Dr.

M.Tech., PhD (IITD) Professor & Head, Dept. of Textile Tech. Dean (Public Affairs) Bapuji Institute of Engineering and Technology Davangere 577004, Karnataka, India -- Dr.Babu obtained his B.Tech (Textile Technology) degree in the year 1986 from BIET securing first class with distinction. He pursued his higher studies at Anna University, Chennai and got his M.Tech (Textile technology) postgraduate degree in the year 1991. His urge for research made him pursue his PhD further. He was awarded IIT research fellowship from IIT Delhi in the year 2001. Dr.Babu was awarded the prestigious “Commonwealth Fellowship” by the Association of Commonwealth Universities, the UK in 2014. Under this fellowship, he was invited as a Visiting Professor by the University of Maroua, Cameroon, Central Africa to establish and develop the Department of Textiles. Dr.Babu has published about 85 research papers in various national and international textile and polymer-related research journals. He has also contributed 7 Book Chapters in textbooks published from Wood Head Publishing House, Cambridge, a UK based international publishing house and his textbook entitled Silk – “Processing, Properties and Applications” was published in 2011. The second edition of this book will be published in 2019. He is also recognized as a Technical Referee for 10 international refereed textile/polymer journals. His name has been included in “World’s Who’s Who 2010 Edition”. Apart from his curricular activities, Dr Babu is a Hindustani Classical Vocalist and a graded artist in Light Music Category of All India Radio and Television. International research invitations: - Oxford University (Oxford Biomaterials Ltd.), the UK on Silk Based Biomaterials in the year 2006 - Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Hong Kong during 2007-2008 on Shape Memory Textiles and Garments Dr Babu is presently working as a Professor and Head of the Department of Textile Technology and Research Centre and Dean (Public and International Affairs).

Eco-friendly green composites, which may replace conventional manmade fibre-reinforced plastics, have been increasingly considered as promising materials due to their many advantages, like using a natural resource, environmental friendliness, sustainability, lightness, carbon dioxide reduction in nature, etc. Their unique balance of properties would open up new market development opportunities for bio-composites in the twenty-first–century’s, green materials world.
