Woven Carpet
On a five-frame Wilton, four fifths of the pile yarn you buy is buried in the body of the carpet and never seen.
— g/m²
All pile yarn consumed, surface and buried together
Frames are assumed to share the surface evenly, which a real design never does — a pattern with a dominant ground colour buries less of that frame and more of the others, so consumption by colour must come from the pattern data rather than from an even split. Planted or semi-worsted Axminster does not carry buried frames at all and the buried figure should be read as zero there. Sculptured effects use several wire heights in one carpet; run the tool once per wire and weight the results by their area share.
