The people who write Textile School
Almost everything on this site was written by somebody who does the work for a living — professors of textile technology, mill technologists, laboratory managers, dyers, merchandisers and the students who will replace them. Their names are on their articles, and this is where you can read who they are and everything each of them has written here.

The editorial desk
Textile School
Textile School is the desk this site publishes under when a piece belongs to the library rather than to one contributor — the reference articles, the revisions that keep them current, the calculators, and the standards register that ties the two together.
The work starts from the same conviction in every subject: most textile questions are answered badly not because the answer is hard, but because nobody stated plainly what was being measured, in what units, and under which method. A count, a twist multiplier, a shade difference and a tensile figure each mean something exact. Keeping them meaning it — showing the working, naming the standard, and saying where a rule of thumb stops holding — is the whole of the job.
Much of what appears under this byline began as a note written to answer one reader's question and stayed because the question kept coming back. It is edited in the open and corrected when somebody who works on the floor writes in to say otherwise. The aim is deliberately unglamorous: that a technologist, a student and a buyer can each take a number away from it and defend that number to somebody else.

Kanika Sachdeva
My experience with research in textiles has been comprehensive and varied. Apparel, although a basic part of our existence, has not received enough scholarly attention. Capitalism diverted all attention towards the billion-dollar industry called 'fashion' which has been majorly content with producing 'Tees', cheaper than a cup of coffee. The historical, physical, socio-economic, psychological aspects of textiles have long been undermined. Keeping this in view, the focus of my foremost paper, 'Divine Shringars' was on documentation of a Vaishavanite deity's elaborate attire as well as its connections with the weather conditions and prevailing socio-cultural scenarios in the time and geography, the cult was developed. My master's research was focused on the use of vegetable dyes on contemporary fabrics and explore the possibilities of incorporating them into the market structures. The focus of the conceived project was to experimentally establish the design & after-care dependability of vegetable dyes.
