What this standard is for
Why it matters
This is where a disagreement about what a GOTS criterion actually requires is settled, so a mill arguing an audit finding is arguing about this document rather than about the standard.
What to watch for
Numbered on its own track and currently ahead of the standard it explains - 7.2 against the standard's 7.0 - which is the single most common source of confusion about GOTS versions. It can be updated at short notice precisely because it is not the standard. Effective date 1 January 2025.
