ISEAL Code of Good Practice for Sustainability Systems
A single framework covering how a sustainability system sets standards, assures conformity and measures impact, with guiding practices on due diligence, remediation, data and stakeholder engagement. A standard for sustainability schemes rather than for a product or a factory. What it governs is how a certification scheme sets its requirements, runs its assurance and measures its effects.

What this standard is for
Where it is used
Named in the development documentation of standards already held here, including Textile Exchange's Materials Matter Standard and the GOTS implementation manual.
Why it matters
The level above everything else in this register's certification records. A scheme described as ISEAL Code Compliant has been assessed against this, which is what distinguishes an audited certification from a self-declared label.
What to watch for
Two version numbers are legitimately in circulation. Version 1.0 was published in 2023 and effective 1 March 2024 with an eighteen-month transition; Version 1.1 came into effect 1 September 2025. Reviewed on a four-year cycle with the next review due no later than March 2028, so this moves far more slowly than the annually revised chemical lists elsewhere in this register.
