ZDHC Wastewater Guidelines

Limits and reporting expectations for the water a textile facility discharges, and for the sludge that comes with it. A programme requirement rather than a test method. Conformance is demonstrated through the ZDHC platform - chemical inventories, wastewater results and supplier assessments - rather than by a single certificate on a product.

What this standard is for

Why it matters

The counterpart to the MRSL at the other end of the process: the MRSL governs what goes in, this governs what comes out, and a facility is normally asked for both.

What to watch for

The version here comes from the title of the document in the publisher's own list, not from the document, which sits behind the Implementation Hub and was not retrieved. Sludge is covered alongside water and is the part most often missed when a mill reports only effluent. Republishing the values, as opposed to citing the list, is governed by ZDHC's IP licensing and is not currently possible: their licensing programme is under development, and its stated terms allow licensed non-participants "policy and alignment statements only - no performance or quantitative claims". A limit value is a quantitative claim. That is why this register describes what the list governs and sends you to ZDHC for the numbers.
