Shuttle loom

A shuttle loom carries the weft across the shed in a shuttle that holds a pirn of yarn and is thrown from side to side, giving a true selvedge on both edges. It is the traditional weaving machine that rapier, projectile and air-jet looms have largely replaced, but it remains in use for selvedge denim, some heavy goods and craft fabrics. Reed width and picks per minute are compared.

2 models of this class are held. None of them carries its builder's published figures yet - the register knows the machines exist and not what they do.
