What this standard is for
Why it matters
Starts where almost nothing else in this register does. The chemical and social standards added alongside it begin at the mill or with fibre already certified; this one is about how the cotton was grown, which is where most of cotton's water and pesticide burden is decided.
What to watch for
The edition here is inferred rather than stated. v3.0 is named in the publisher's own URL and in their account of the revision that produced it, but nothing fetched says it is the current version or gives it an effective date - unlike their chain of custody standard, which states both. Confirm against the document before quoting the version.
