IS 5175 Fibre ropes — Polypropylene split film monofilament and multifilament — 3-, 4-, 8- and 12- strand ropes (fifth revision)
An Indian Standard product specification, published by the Bureau of Indian Standards. It is compulsory under the Ropes and Cordages (Quality Control) Order, 2024 (S.O. 4327(E)), in force since 1 April 2025: the product must conform to it and carry the BIS Standard Mark under a licence, whether made in India or imported. The order names IS 5175:2022, which covered the high-tenacity PP3 grade; BIS lists IS 5175:2026 as its successor, and the 2026 title no longer names PP3. S.O. 2871(E) of 5 June 2026 exempts recycled-waste polypropylene ropes from the order for twelve months.

What this standard is for
What to watch for
The link goes to the BIS lookup service rather than to this standard, because BIS publishes no per-standard address. Search the designation there; the portal also lists the licences granted under it. The year shown is the edition BIS currently lists; BIS sets a last date for licensees to move to a new edition, so a licence may still name the earlier one.
