ISO 1833-15 Textiles — Quantitative chemical analysis — Part 15: Mixtures of jute with certain animal fibres (method by determining nitrogen content)
Jute separated from animal fibres by measuring nitrogen rather than by dissolution. The odd method in the series: protein contains nitrogen and jute contains almost none, so the composition is inferred from a Kjeldahl-type determination rather than from a weighed residue. There is no reagent and no correction factor d here. It fails if the blend has been dyed or finished with a nitrogenous agent, which adds nitrogen that the calculation reads as protein. Identify the fibres by microscopy first.
