OEKO-TEX
OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100
Tests textile articles for harmful substances at every stage of processing, from yarn through to the finished item including its threads, buttons and prints. A voluntary certification standard, not a test method. Conformity is demonstrated by testing and audit through OEKO-TEX member institutes, and the certificate is what moves with the goods.

What this standard is for
Where it is used
The label a consumer is most likely to have actually seen, and the certification most often named in a buyer's terms for anything worn next to the skin.
Why it matters
Requirements are set by product class according to how much skin contact the article has, so an article for babies is held to stricter limits than an upholstery fabric. A certificate is meaningless without knowing which class it was issued against.
What to watch for
The edition is inside the document and not in its web address. OEKO-TEX serves the current document at a permanent URL, so a link saved in a quality manual quietly starts pointing at a later edition with different limit values. Cite the edition, never just the link.
