Equivalents
| Body | Number | Equivalence | Deviation |
|---|---|---|---|
| ASTM | ASTM D629 | NEQ | Parallel standard, not an adoption of the ISO text under ISO/IEC Guide 21. Measures the same property by a comparable method; results should not be assumed interchangeable. Confirm which standard the buyer specifies. ASTM D629 covers quantitative analysis of textiles in a single document; ISO 1833 is a multi-part series with a part per fibre pair. |
| CEN | EN ISO 1833-1 | IDT | CEN adopts the standard unchanged under this designation, which is the name it is cited by across the European Union. Recorded so that a specification written in European terms reaches the document this register already holds. |
Verification coverage
Checked against ASTM. Not yet checked: AATCC, BIS, SAC, JIS, EN, DIN — an absent row here does not mean no equivalent exists.
What this standard is for
Where it is used
Label verification, customs classification, and any claim about blend ratio that a buyer or a regulator can check.
Why it matters
Fibre content is a legal claim in most markets, not a commercial one. A blend that tests outside its declared tolerance is a mislabelling exposure, and the remedy is rarely just a relabel.
What to watch for
The result depends on which part of the series applies to the fibre pair, and on the moisture and finish corrections. Two labs disagreeing usually chose different parts. A revision is under way. This register also holds ISO/DIS 1833-1, which is a draft international standard, out for ballot among member bodies. The designation and title are identical to this record's, differing only in the document-type prefix, which is what identifies it as a revision of this standard rather than a separate one - no statement from ISO was read, whose site has been unreachable. Anyone writing this standard into a specification should expect the requirements to move.
