ISO 1833-18 Textiles — Quantitative chemical analysis — Part 18: Mixtures of silk with wool or other animal hair (method using sulfuric acid)
Silk dissolved in sulfuric acid, leaving wool or other animal hair. Two protein fibres separated on their different resistance to acid - a narrow margin, and the reason silk-wool blend labels are worth checking rather than trusting. The residue is weighed and corrected by the factor d that the standard gives for that fibre in that reagent; the dissolved component is the difference. Identify the fibres by microscopy first - the method assumes you already know which two you have.
