ISO 1833-5 Textiles — Quantitative chemical analysis — Part 5: Mixtures of viscose, cupro or modal and cotton fibres (method using sodium zincate)
Regenerated cellulose - viscose, cupro, modal - dissolved in sodium zincate, leaving cotton. This is the difficult one in the series: viscose and cotton are both cellulose, so the separation rests on the regenerated fibre being far more accessible to the reagent than the native one, and the margin is narrow. Mercerised cotton behaves more like viscose and skews the result. The residue is weighed and corrected by the factor d that the standard gives for that fibre in that reagent; the dissolved component is the difference. Identify the fibres by microscopy first - the method assumes you already know which two you have.
