LWG Leather Manufacturer Audit Standard
Assesses a facility that processes leather from raw, crust or tanned material, across effluent treatment, health and safety, chemical management, operations management, traceability, social responsibility and governance. A voluntary audit standard for a facility, not a test method and not a product certification. The output is a rated certification of the site rather than a claim about any particular hide.

What this standard is for
Where it is used
The certification a footwear or leathergoods brand asks its tanneries for by name, and the reason a tannery publishes a rating at all.
Why it matters
The environmental case about leather is decided in the tannery - water, effluent and chrome handling - and none of it can be recovered by testing the finished hide. This is the only standard here that looks at that.
What to watch for
The version is written as P7 rather than 7.0, so a search for a dotted version number finds nothing. Version 7 added a dedicated social auditing section, which means a P7 certificate covers ground that earlier protocol certificates did not, and the two are not comparable on social performance.
