LWG Subcontractor Audit Standard
Evaluates the environmental performance of a company carrying out operations on material it does not own, across thirteen sections including operating permits, energy, water, emissions and waste. Released 2020. A voluntary audit standard for a facility, not a test method and not a product certification. The output is a rated certification of the site rather than a claim about any particular hide.

What this standard is for
What to watch for
Gives subcontractors their own route to certification rather than leaving them assessed only through a client's audit, which is why a tannery's subcontractors may hold certificates of their own. The publisher states a launch year for this standard but no version number, so this record carries no edition. Ask LWG which revision an audit was performed against before comparing two certificates.
