LWG Trader Audit Standard

For traders of raw hides and skins, part-processed material and finished leather, covering material data and traceability across six sections. Launched 2017. A voluntary audit standard for a facility, not a test method and not a product certification. The output is a rated certification of the site rather than a claim about any particular hide.

What this standard is for

Why it matters

Data from a trader audit can be fed into a leather manufacturer's own audit, so a certified trader improves the traceability score of the tanneries buying from them. It is the traceability link between the two.

What to watch for

A trader must have a physical warehouse through which material is received or dispatched. A company that buys and sells without ever taking possession cannot be audited under this standard at all and has to join by a different route. The publisher states a launch year for this standard but no version number, so this record carries no edition. Ask LWG which revision an audit was performed against before comparing two certificates.
