Scouring and milling (fulling)
Scouring removes oils, dirt and spinning lubricants from wool fabric by washing, and milling, or fulling, then felts the fabric in a controlled way through mechanical action, heat and moisture, so that it shrinks and becomes denser. These steps come early in woollen finishing, before drying, raising and decatising. Batch capacity, intensity of mechanical action and shrinkage control are compared.
