ISO 5077 Textiles — Determination of dimensional change in washing and drying
How much a fabric or garment shrinks or grows after washing, measured against marks applied before the wash.

Equivalents
| Body | Number | Equivalence | Deviation |
|---|---|---|---|
| AATCC | AATCC 135 | NEQ | AATCC 135 is a single method combining the laundering procedure and the dimensional-change measurement; ISO splits the same ground across ISO 6330 (procedure) and ISO 5077 (measurement). Results are not interchangeable without matching the wash conditions. |
Verification coverage
Checked against AATCC. Not yet checked: ASTM, BIS, SAC, JIS, EN, DIN — an absent row here does not mean no equivalent exists.
What this standard is for
Where it is used
Garment and fabric specifications for anything washable, and the single most common cause of a shipment being held.
Why it matters
Shrinkage failures surface after production, when the only remedies left are discount or rejection. Getting the number right at the fabric stage is the whole point of testing it there.
What to watch for
The result belongs to the wash procedure it was run under. Quote the dimensional change and the procedure together, or the figure is not actionable.
