ISO 2062 Textiles — Yarns from packages — Determination of single-end breaking force and elongation at break using constant rate of extension (CRE) tester
How strong a single end of yarn is, and how far it stretches before it breaks, measured on a machine that pulls at a constant rate.

Equivalents
| Body | Number | Equivalence | Deviation |
|---|---|---|---|
| ASTM | ASTM D2256 | NEQ | Parallel standard, not an adoption of the ISO text under ISO/IEC Guide 21. Measures the same property by a comparable method; results should not be assumed interchangeable. Confirm which standard the buyer specifies. |
Verification coverage
Checked against ASTM. Not yet checked: AATCC, BIS, SAC, JIS, EN, DIN — an absent row here does not mean no equivalent exists.
What this standard is for
Where it is used
Yarn purchase specifications, and troubleshooting when a yarn is breaking in weaving or knitting rather than on the test bench.
Why it matters
Yarn that fails in the machine costs far more than yarn that fails a test: stoppages, seconds, and lost machine hours. Strength on the certificate is what a spinner is paid for, so the method behind the number is contractual.
What to watch for
Gauge length and extension rate change the result, so two certificates are only comparable if both were run to the same parameters. A CRE result is not interchangeable with an older CRT or CRL one.
